Nardo Poy, viola
Nardo Poy, violist, has been a member of the world-renowned Orpheus Chamber Orchestra since 1978. He also appears regularly with several chamber music groups and orchestras in the New York area, including the Perspectives Ensemble, the Orchestra of St. Lukes, and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. He is the principal violist of the Bard Music Festival Orchestra and the New York Symphonic Arts Orchestra, and appears often in that position with the American Symphony Orchestra.
Among the positions Mr. Poy has held over the years are Artist-in- Residence at S.U.N.Y. Potsdam with the Carnegie String Quartet; violist with the Broyhill Chamber Ensemble; principal violist of the Lake George Opera Festival, the SantaFe Opera, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, the Philharmonia Orchestra of Philadelphia and the Grand Teton Music Festival. For many years he was a member of and soloist with the Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia and has also appeared as soloist with the North Carolina Symphony, the Kansas City Camerata and the Orpheus Chamber Ensemble throughout the U.S., Europe and Japan.
Mr. Poy has made more than sixty recordings with Orpheus on the Deutsche Grammophon and Nonesuch labels. He has collaborated on a recording of vocal chamber music with Dawn Upshaw and has also recorded works by Dvorak, Griffes, Taneyev and Piazzolla.
