Artist Biography
Marka Gustavsson, Viola
Violist Marka Gustavsson has appeared as a guest artist of the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society's Meet the Music series, on the Robert Sherman's WQXR Young Artists' Showcase, and in the ABC Sports documentary "Passion to Play."
As a member of the Colorado Quartet she has performed at Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart and Bard's Summer Festival. Internationally, Ms Gustavsson has performed in the Festival Presence de Ligeti at Radio-France, for the Queen of the Netherlands in Utrecht's Vredenburg Hall, and at Takemitsu's memorial in Oji Hall in Tokyo.
Marka has worked with composers Martin Bresnich, Tan Dun, John Halle, and Henri Dutilleux and has collaborated with performing artists David Sawyer, Daniel Phillips, David Geber, and Michael Tree. She currently serves on the faculties of Bard College and Soundfest with the Colorado Quartet, and performs additionally as a member of Invention! and the Blue Elm Trio.
Ms Gustavsson earned degrees from Indiana University and Mannes College of Music; her formative teachers include Mimi Zweig, Josef Gingold, Felix Galimir, and Daniel Phillips.
